Moving to New York City for the summer was quite an adjustment. I was looking for a new experience in a new city and nothing was more perfect than getting an internship offer from Lori Goldstein for the summer. I think it goes without saying- this was an offer I immediately accepted! Having lived in Atlanta for the last 6 years, I didn’t realize how much more chaotic New York was going to be. From cabs, to subways, New Yorkers are always on the go! But despite those classic modes of transportation that come to mind when you think of NYC, it is really all about being outdoors and appreciating your surroundings. I can understand how the city is a major source of inspiration for Lori. You always see different kinds of people on the streets and depending on the turns you take, there are so many memorable corners to be discovered. Given the hustle and fast nature of the work life, NYC provides some of the most unique experiences, and so I enjoy wandering through different parts of the city in my downtime. As hard as New Yorkers work, they always find a way to relax and enjoy life in the city.
As today was a particularly beautiful morning, I walked through the Union Square Greenmarket on my way to work. Located at E 17th St & Union Square W, it’s open only on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday mornings. I was immediately taken aback by how bright and colorful everything was, and how busy it was so early in the morning! Everybody was out, either alone or with a partner, getting their fruit and vegetable fix for the day. It’s hard not to be drawn to the different colors and wonderful smells so early in the morning.
Being a huge sucker for pastries, I was immediately pulled to one particular vendor selling a variety of baked goods. It was hard to resist the overwhelming smell coming from their batch of freshly baked blueberry scones. So of course, I had to try one for myself and spend a couple of minutes in the park to enjoy my (not so healthy) breakfast for the day. I figured it was okay since I’ll be burning off these calories anyways while running errands for the office today. As I explored, I realized all the vibrant colors at the market reminded me of LOGO! And the colorful collections I get to work with at my internship this summer! It’s easy to see how Lori is inspired by the great outdoors and by this unique city. Surrounded by nature definitely helps to spark new levels of creativity and imagination. If you’re in NYC, definitely check out the Union Square Greenmarket, or even just take a moment at your local farmer’s market. Being outside is always a fun experience and won’t regret walking by a gorgeous variety of produce, flowers, and even… indulging in some pastries.
