From my first day working as an intern at LOGO, it was very clear to me that expression and color were big inspirations for Lori. Walking through the studio and taking in past collections, I was instantly marveled by Lori’s ability to blend different colors and designs to create her ultimate vision (I couldn’t believe there are over 700 colors used on the LOGO collection!). I thought to myself, what better way to spark some more creativity than taking a trip down to the Color Factory Exhibition. If you’re not familiar with the Color Factory, it was created in 2017 by event-planner/blogger Jordan Ferney, artist Leah Rosenberg, and designer Erin Jang. Being an interactive pop-up art exhibition, the creators weren’t expecting it to run as long as it did. After seeing its popularity take off, the exhibit has been opening in cities across America. But the one in Soho, in New York City, is unlike any other.
I’d be lying if I said the color factory was everything I expected, because it certainly wasn’t – being unexpected made for a very unpredictable yet exciting experience! From the moment I stepped foot in the building, the experience was engaging and interactive. It definitely made going alone a little difficult, but I tried to participate in any way I could. Each room I entered had a different activity, and along the way I was given little souvenirs that I could keep after my visit. Unfortunately, I had to sit out of the partner activities, but there were also some activities I could solitarily do. In one of the rooms, I had to follow a floor map and answer questions about myself to get to the end of the room. There was even a conveyor belt full of macaroons of different flavors and colors (and who doesn’t love free food?)
Overall, the Color Factory was a unique and immersing experience, though an experience you should definitely experience alongside someone else. The partner and interactive activities along the way make the experience more than just an art exhibit. Throughout my visit, I couldn’t help but think about the many ways color has influenced Lori and her vision of LOGO. I don’t want to spoil too much of the exhibit for you, so if you ever find yourself in New York City I would definitely go check it out for yourself!
